The inaugural Gathering of Families runs in Great Falls this year on October 8 through 14, and the Great Falls Library is proud to be participating in several events throughout the week.

Library director Susie McIntyre will participate in the powwow on October 9 starting at 1 p.m. at Pacific Steel & Recycling Arena.

The Great Falls Genealogy Society will welcome guests on October 11 from 2 to 4 pm to the third floor of the library where they will give instruction on the number of on-site resources available for searches of ancestors of Montana's tribal people including the fur trade era in Canada and the United States.

Library Youth Services staff will lead the Story Stick Activity at Montana State University-Great Falls in Room 139 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 pm on October 12. During the activity, groups of 20 to 30 children will rotate through different story stick stations. In typical story stick activities, whoever possesses the stick cannot be interrupted for as long as it’s in their possession. Once a person fully expresses themselves, they pass it along to another, and the process will repeat itself until all who have something to say. A book related to the event will be read to the children as well.
