Checkout, Renew & Place Holds

To check out items from the Library, you must have a Great Falls Public Library Card.

Borrowing Items

New Books, Books, DVDs, Grab and Go--28 days

Downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks--14 days

There is an item limit of 8 items checked out for the first three month of having your library card, and then if your account is in good standing, the limit is 25.

Account Notifications via Text

With Shoutbomb, receive text notifications about due dates, holds, and overdue items and renew items via text.To sign up, text "signup" to  (406) 215-4240. (Standard text messaging rates apply.)

Renewing Items

Items can be renewed up to 2 times, unless there are holds. You may renew items through the online Library catalog, over the phone at (406) 453-0349, in-person, through the library’s self-checks, or through our Library App.  

Returning Items 

Library items may be returned in the book-drops located in the lobby and outside on the west side of the building.

Placing Holds

Holds can be placed through your library account online or through our Library App. When your hold is available for pick up, you will be notified via email (or mail if no email is provided).  If the items are in and on the shelf, please allow the Library at least 24 hours to fill your request. 


The Great Falls Public Library  is a fine free library as of 2020.
