Join us on March 19 at 7 pm in the Cordingley Room as we celebrate International Women's Day. The library is excited to welcome several young women from our local high schools to speak about their experiences today, and their hopes for the future.

March 8 is the official International Women's Day on the calendar, which has been celebrated each year since 1911. Women's History Week was instituted in 1978 and nine years later, the National Women's History Project petitioned congress to include all of March as a, "celebration of the economic, political, and social contributions of women." The first IWD gathering in 1911 was supported by over a million people.

The International Women's Day 2024 campaign theme is 'Inspire Inclusion.' According to the International Women's Day website, "To inspire inclusion means to celebrate diversity and empowerment on International Women's Day 2024 and beyond," it states. "International Women's Day (IWD) is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Each year, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the progress made towards gender equality and highlights the work that still needs to be done."
